The Dell Inspiron 1150 is one of the most common Dells fixed. It uses a nine pin jack configuration which is specific to Dell and a few HP models. The back center pin is the data pin (Let' the motherboard know what ac adapter is plugged in) and the two back pins are voltage. If you don't solder the data pin correctly your ac adapter will show up as unknown and the laptop will power on but won't charge the battery.
Common symptoms with this model are wiggling the ac adapter to make the laptop charge, lack of solder or broken solder on the voltage pins that cause the plug to come loose or not making proper contact, or just simply breaking off the motherboard.

Remove the two back screws on both sides that support the LCD hinges.
Carefully remove the plastic power button bezel. This will give access to the keyboard screws.
Remove the four keyboard screws.
Carefully remove the keyboard ribbon from the motherboard.
After the keyboard has been removed you can take the metal shield off with a single screw and remove the four LCD screws. Use caution when removing the LCD ribbon cable.
You can now remove the three screws that hold the top plastic bezel in place.
Once the top plastic is removed you can remove the heatsink/fan, optical drive, hard drive caddy screws, cd caddy screws, battery caddy screws, and video heatsink screws. Go to the back of the vga connection and remove the two screws there. The motherboard can be lifted out and be de-soldered!
